Gooderham Flatron Building at the height of Toronto's first major snowfall of the year.
While strolling the streets of Montmartre near the Basilica of Sacré Coeur on this hot August evening just after sunset, I came across this spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower as it began its dazzling light show under the glow of the moon.
Magnificent Mont Saint Michel just as the sun peeked out from the horizon. It's in these very still and quiet early morning hours that you fully sense the ghosts of history surrounding this mythical and magical place, and I was mesmerized in this moment by its beauty in first light.
Face-to-face with Toronto's Gooderham Flatiron Building dividing Front Street from Wellington, and old Toronto from new.
I'd waited years to come to Paris to photograph its endless iconic structures including, near the top of my list, a photo of the Louvre Museum: the epicentre of masterful blends of reality and fantasy for centuries. My late-mother had intended to be here as a brilliant painter largely influenced by the French Impressionists, and so, in her honour, I arose at 5 AM this day to take not one photo of the Louvre as intended, but 40 images to capture the rich detail of this monument to the Arts in one 385 megapixel frame. I hope you enjoy it, but for me, this represents the extraordinary warmth and beauty of my mother in every way, and I will forever feel her presence when I gaze at it on my wall.
Iconic locations like La Maison Rose are peppered on every cobbled street throughout Montmartre, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Paris.
Magical sunset sky on the Eiffel Tower from the Alexandre III Bridge captured moments after the sun disappeared behind the Paris skyline. And as a bonus to this spectacular sky in one of the most beautiful locations in Paris, I particularly loved the way the red clouds on the right happened to balance the visual weight of the lamp post on the left in the frame. Like staring at a live postcard.
A beautiful summer evening strolling through the streets of Montmartre and came across this picturesque cafe bustling with tourists.
The first Super Moon of our year in lockdown presented itself as an irresistible backdrop for the iconic, and beautifully restored Broadview Hotel in Toronto's Riverside neighbourhood.
Twilight has a soothing effect for people, even in the city; but with scarcely a soul in sight because of the pandemic lockdown, it can feel a little eerie, as well. And as we settle in our homes for a long winter's nap during this second total lockdown beginning one minute past midnight, I wish everyone good health, safety, and peace until we can meet again in the streets. Sweet dreams, Toronto.
Driving home late one night, I was taken aback by the solitude of the Queen Street Bridge with almost no traffic except the occasional streetcar. It was very quiet and still with a light mist following a warm summer rain, and I couldn't help but notice the early 20th Century industrial-age feel of the scene, and had to juxtapose it with the 21st Century LED lighting of the new Toronto streetcars. Winner of Architecture Category 1 Runner-Up in 2021 500px Neil Dankoff Photography Competition.
Toronto gold in panoramic reflection. As the sun sets behind the Toronto skyline on this scorching hot summer evening, the Toronto skyline lights up for the approaching night in a sea of golden glimmer, and casts a shimmering reflection across the Toronto Harbour.
